Plant operational survey

TCL offer a plant review programme that provides a detailed audit of your turbine plant to determine the operational efficiency and future maintenance strategy. The object of the audit is to identify cost effective ways of increasing plant reliability and efficiency, thereby increasing plant revenue.

TCL focus on the operating regime of the plant and work closely with the plant owner to determine the most appropriate scope of the audit. For example, for owners of emergency generating plant start reliability is paramount and any failed start is a loss of revenue. Whilst for owners of base load turbines, small improvements in efficiency can result in large increases in revenue. The audit report then gives details of how the operation of the plant can be improved to increase reliability and efficiency.

Running tests will be completed during which readings of all plant parameters will be recorded. This can be used as footprint data which can be compared to future running data to identify detreating trends. By identifying potential issues at an early stage the owner is able to put in place the necessary maintenance activities to prevent a catastrophic failure and resultant extended down-time. The appropriate actions may be to replace a part but equally it may involve more frequent monitoring of the equipment.

TCL will supply a highly trained engineer to carry out the audit who will be able to advise on any potential problems identified. We will also supply high speed recording equipment, to capture engine parameters during the running tests, which will be connected to the plant transducers. However we are able to supply and fit the necessary transducers, if required.

Scope of inspection:-

The exact scope of the inspection will be discussed and agreed upon before attending site. However typical activities that may be included are:-

1) Review of maintenance inspections and records
2) Full borescope inspection of the gas turbine
3) External engine inspection
4) Electrical testing of engine harness and instrumentation
5) Light-off test to optimise light-off settings
6) On-load running to determine footprint data
7) IGV and bleed valve calibration tests if applicable
8) Vibration readings and analysis
9) Performance testing

Following the completion of the health check the customer is supplied with a full report which will detail:-

1) Tests completed and results
2) Video recording and photographs of the borescope inspection
3) Faults found and corrective actions
4) Recommendations for future maintenance activities
